HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HEV)
HEVs seamlessly combine the power of a gas engine with electric motors. It recharges on the go, so you'll never need to plug in.
PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (PHEV)
PHEVs operate in the same way as HEVs, but can optionally be plugged in for extended electric-only range.
BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLE (BEV)
BEVs are zero-emission vehicles powered by electricity, requiring plugging in. Regenerative braking recharges the battery while driving.
HYDROGEN FUEL CELL ELECTRIC VEHICLE (FCEV)
FCEVs use hydrogen as an energy source to power high-output electric motors, emitting water as the only by-product from the tailpipe.
Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
A hybrid electric vehicle includes both a gas and electric motor so you never need to be plugged in.
STARTING UP
In most conditions, only the electric motor is engaged, saving fuel and delivering instant torque with minimal emissions.
ACCELERATING & CRUISING
The gas engine and electric motor provide seamless acceleration. Excess energy is used to help recharge the battery.
DECELERATING & BRAKING
The regenerative braking system converts braking energy into electric energy to help recharge the battery onboard the vehicle.
RESTING & REVERSING
When stopped, the gas engine shuts down to conserve fuel. When reversing at low speed, only the electric motor is required.

Toyota Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
A zero-emissions vehicle that is only powered by electricity requiring plugging-in to recharge in addition to regenerative braking.
Level 1 Charging: Standard
Charge your BEV using a standard 120-volt AC wall socket. The slowest way to charge, it can also be the most convenient and requires no special equipment.
Level 2 Charging: Faster
A 240-volt AC outlet can cut BEV charging times in half. Install one at home, or charge up at any Level 2 public station.
Level 3 Charging: Fastest
Direct Current (DC) Chargers (480V+) are currently the fastest method of charging your electric vehicle. Canada has more than 5,000 public EV charging stations – 500 of which are Level 3 fast chargers.

Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle uses hydrogen as the energy source while emitting water.
CLEAN
When hydrogen is made using renewable energy, it is completely carbon-free. When used to power an FCEV, like Mirai, the only tailpipe emission is water vapour.
EFFICIENT
Electricity is produced onboard, and supplied to the electric motor as needed. Excess energy is stored in a compact battery pack.
FAMILIAR
There’s no need to change your driving habits. Where refueling infrastructure exists, simply fill the hydrogen fuel tank and you are ready to enjoy zero emissions driving at its finest.
